Historical sound, above all, gives music authenticity. In my opinion, as an instrumentalist, it’s important to understand what you’re playing and realize that music isn’t just notes you play, but that it contains something unique. Knowing how a given piece or composition was performed in the past can be very beneficial not only to the instrumentalist but also to the listener. By understanding what they’re playing, a performer is better able to share the music and help the listener understand its message.
