Carmen is Carmen; the core is always the same, it’s just presented differently. It’s important for the character to be real and sincere. And Carmen is simply a free person. Yes, she has to go to work, because life is always ruled by money. But she’s a free spirit. If we were to make her a truly living character, like you or me, she would be dissatisfied, experiencing disappointment after disappointment. Carmen is a strong woman who wants to be free. Above all, she makes her own decisions, refuses compromise, and is independent. Carmen is a character I will defend in every production. MK (Presto)
